Palliative Care Program at Roper St. Francis Healthcare

The Palliative Care Program at Roper St. Francis was established to improve the quality of life of patients people who are living with a life-limiting illness. The goal of palliative care is to provide the best quality of life for patients by ensuring their comfort and dignity. Palliative care focuses on the whole person and includes expert medical care, symptom and pain management, as well as emotional and spiritual support expressly tailored to the patient and his or her family’s needs and wishes.

Palliative care is not the same as hospice care and is appropriate for people of any age at any point in an illness. It can be delivered along with treatments that are meant to cure you.

Palliative care is typically provided by a team that includes palliative care doctors, nurses and social workers. The team works in partnership with your primary doctor.
